I think it is great your family has agreed to a dog!! Pedigree just means the dog comes with papers “proving” it is really a chihuahua. Non-breeding contract means that you agree not to breed the dog…yes, it is your own dog, but you still agree not to breed it!
Dog gestation (how long they develop inside the momma dog) is about 9 weeks.
You sound like you are really doing your research! Please look into a few other things BEFORE you get your dog. Look into “pet overpopulation.” This will give you some REALLY good reasons not to breed your dog besides that non-breeding contract. Puppies are the best, but there are other ways to have puppies when your family is ready for that, like fostering shelter puppies!
Also, go to a site called Petfinder.com and look for chihuahuas in your area. A lot of those won’t be pedigreed, but they are just as great as the ones you might find from a breeder, and you will be rescuing instead of buying.
